The following is a list of some of the completed works.

 

2024

  • Suspended sediment movement for two planned fish farms in Hiiumaa. The extent and probability of sediment spread were modeled. This work served as input for environmental impact assessment.

  • Analysis of potential harbor sites in Western Saaremaa. Using modeled wave data, the wave climate near potential harbor sites was described. Based on this, ship movements in different locations could also be assessed. Additionally, coastal processes and construction geological conditions were described based on previous studies and fieldwork. Geophysical work was conducted at sea. Harbor sketches were drawn, and a preliminary SWOT analysis was compiled. As a result of the work, potential harbor sites for further analysis were identified.

  • Analysis of potential harbor and landing sites on Naissaar and Prangli islands. The coasts of both islands, coastal processes, and modeled sediment transport were examined to find suitable locations for further development within the context of Viimsi municipality's comprehensive plan.

  • Expert opinions on Leesikald harbor and Uuelahe breakwaters.

  • Wave modeling for Miinisadam, Jaagupi, and Pallasmaa village (Muhu) harbors.

2023

  • Sediment movement near Lehtma harbor. Coastal processes, shoreline changes, and water and sediment movement were analyzed. Different locations for sediment disposal were compared, and recommendations were given. This work served as input for environmental impact assessment.

  • Wave modeling at Engure harbor in Latvia. The planned harbor expansion variants were compared in different wave conditions, and wave parameters for design were calculated.

  • Wave modeling for quay no. 6a at Paldiski harbor.

  • Modeling of sediments and coastal processes at Heltermaa harbor. The spread of suspended sediment in the disposal area was also examined. This work served as input for environmental impact assessment.

  • Water level analysis for designing openings in the Väike Väin dam. Measured water levels were used to determine flow rates and maximum water velocities near the opening. Ice conditions and potential sediment and mud accumulation under the bridge were assessed.

  • Sediment movement in Daugavgrīva, Latvia. Coastal processes, shoreline changes, and water and sediment movement were analyzed during the construction of coastal defenses.

2022

  • Modeling sediment transport in Andineeme, Estonia . Sediment movement in different situations and scenarios was analyzed. Recommendations were given.

  • Modelling sediment transport near Nasva harbor, Estonia. The movement of sediments and suspended solids in different conditions was analyzed.

  • Analysis of flooded areas in Kuusalu municipality, Estonia, and its properties. Based on the measurements, it was assessed and explained which coastal areas in general should be treated as an area with repeated flooding, i.e. which are constantly and during specific periods affected by floods. The boundary of the area with repeated flooding was determined. It was explained how the impact of climate change and coastal processes should be taken into account when determining the repeatedly flooded area and specifying the construction ban zone. Considering the regional characteristics, instructions were given for the direction of settlement and construction activities.

  • Expertise on design of Sillamäe marina, Estonia. The port structures were analyzed and improvement proposals were made.

  • Various design work projects in Virtsus, Roomassaare, Triigi, Kihnu and Ruhnu. Saarte Liinid Ltd required various design works – preliminary and detailed design for harbour structures at their ports.

  • Measurements and modeling of waves in the harbors of Heltermaa, Rohuküla, Virtsu, Ruhnu and Kihnu.

2021

  • Modeling waves and water levels of Logi (Tallinn) properties. Client: Estkonsult OÜ. Wave and water level parameters for design works corresponding to different return periods were found with the wave model SWAN. Wave run-up and overtopping in case of different shore protection solutions was analyzed and recommendations for a cost-effective solution were made.

  • Shore protection consultations near Liepaja, Latvia. Client: Design Solutions LLC (Latvia).

  • Modeling wave parameters for Skulte harbor. Client: Design Solutions LLC (Latvia). The changes of waves in the port in case of diffrent quay cross-sections on the left bank of Skulte port were analyzed.

  • Coastal processes for the port of Püünsi, Estonia.  Client: Viimsi Haldus Ltd. The local wave climate was described. The situation was analyzed based on changes in the coastline and observation of the object. The impact of the new port design on coastal processes was evaluated: whether and how the pattern of sediment movement changes.

  • Breakwater audit in Viimsi municipality.  Client: private person. The constructions were analyzed and stability was evaluated. A report was drawn up to legalize the building in the municipality and obtain a use permit.

  • Modeling wave parameters for Skulte harbor. Client: Bauest Ltd. The change of waves in the harbor with different pontoons and their characteristics on the right bank of Skulte harbor was analyzed. The suitability of the pontoons was evaluated and construction scenarios were presented.

  • Modeling wave parameters for Patarei promenaade in Tallinn, Estonia. Client: Estkonsult Ltd. Wave and water level parameters for structural design with diferent return periods were found with the wave model SWAN. The amount of wave run-up and overtopping in case of different coastal protection solutions was analyzed and recommendations for a cost-effective solution were made.

  • Expertise of the Narva-Jõesuu, Estonia, breakwater. Client: Estkonsult Ltd. Wave parameters were calculated and the structure of the breakwater was analyzed.

  • Hydrodynamic modeling of a new pier for cruise ships in Tallinn, Estonia.  Client: Lemma Ltd. The movement of suspended sediments at the location of the pier was modeled for the purpose of the EIA. The wave parameters (height, period, direction) were calculated with the SWAN model in the vicinity of the cruise berth, and based on this, the ship's movements were evaluated for two different orientations of the pier.

  • The study of determining the boundary of the area with repeated flooding and specifying the construction ban zone at Saaremaa municipality.  Client: Saaremaa municipality. Based on the measurements, it was explained which coastal areas should be treated as an area with repeated flooding, i.e. which are constantly and during specific periods affected by floods. The boundary of the area with repeated flooding was determined. It was explained how the impact of climate change and coastal processes should be taken into account when determining the repeatedly flooded area and specifying the construction ban zone.   • Modeling wave parameters for Roomassaare port quay no. 1. Client: Estkonsult OÜ. Wave and water level parameters for structural design with diferent return periods were found with the wave model SWAN.

  • Modeling the wave parameters of the fishing beach. Client: Kaurits OÜ. Wave and water level parameters for structural design with diferent return periods were found with the wave model SWAN.

  • Analysis of coastal processes in Valgerand. Client: Audru community. The wave climate, water levels and existing beach insurance were briefly described. The wave parameters were calculated using empirical formulas. Time series of water levels were used. Various possible beach protection scenarios at Valgeraranna were analysed. The principles of rock protection were outlined.

  • Modeling wave parameters for Lennusadam, Estonia. Client: Estkonsult OÜ. Wave and water level parameters for structural design with diferent return periods were found with the wave model SWAN. The layout and impact of the additional quay were analyzed with the SWAN and COULWAVE models.

  • Modeling wave parameters at Salmistu harbor, Estonia. Client: Kaurits OÜ. Wave and water level parameters for structural design with diferent return periods were found with the wave model SWAN.

  • Layout for moorings at Naissaar, Estonia. A sketch was drawn up for mooring ships. The work served as an input in the detailed planning discussion process.

  • Hydrodynamic modeling of Aseri port in Estonia for EIA. Client: Skepast & Puhkim OÜ. The movement of suspended solids in the port location and dumping was modelled. In addition, beach processes were examined.

  • Expertise in Andineeme, Estonia, beach processes.

  • Modeling wave parameters of a new Tallink harbor in Tallinn and assessing its impact on ships. Client: Infortar Ltd. Wave parameters (height, period, direction) were calculated with different models (WAM and SWAN) and winds. Quantiles of different wave heights were presented. Ship motions with RAO functions were found for these wave parameters. Recommendations were given for the layout of berths and ships. The work was done in cooperation with the Laboratory of Wave Engineering at Tallinn University of Technology.

2019

  • Modeling circulation of heated water in a bay for a preliminary assessment of the construction of the industrial complex . Client: Tallinn University. The wave climate, water levels and currents in the Gulf of Finland were described. Wave parameters in Kunda Bay were modeled with the SWAN wave model. The effect of water intake and discharge at two different locations on the currents was analyzed. The spatial distribution of cooling water for three possible locations of the cooling water outlet was compared. Recommendations were given for a location selection and further work.

  • Analysis of movement of sand at Andineeme, Estonia.

  • Analysis of water levels and storms on the coast of Lääneranna municipality . Client: Skepast&Puhkim OÜ. The work consisted of flood and storm analysis. Using existing measurements and modeled data, the first part looked at both long-term trends and short-term higher/lower water levels. The values exceeding the quantile of the water levels and their estimated time lengths were given, which were the input for determining the boundaries of the flood area. General recommendations were given for the preparation of the general plan regarding the development possibilities and also the limitations of the coastal areas. In the second part, the different types of coasts in Lääneranna municipality were described, the main factors of coastal processes and waves were observed, the impact of storms on the coast was evaluated based on monitoring and wind data, and the trends of possible storm damage were evaluated and recommendations given.

  • Hydrodynamic modeling for a fish farm on the northwestern coast of Saaremaa - modeling of waves and sediment movement . Client: Saaremere Kala Ltd. Wind waves and their parameters (significant wave height, average period, peak period, maximum wave) were modeled for different wind return periods (2, 5, 10, 50 years) and average conditions. The bottom friction caused by wind waves was modeled for different wind speeds (quantiles) and directions. The obtained results were compared with empirical graphs to estimate the start of sediment movement. Sediment movement was modeled for different wind speeds and directions.

  • Analysis of waves and water levels for the design of Väike-Pakri port. Client: Estkonsult OÜ. Wave parameters were modeled for the design of Väike-Pakri harbor with the SWAN wave model. The wave heights of the water area were modeled with different southerly winds and limit values for the basin were found. It was found how often were the conditions unsuitable for mooring in front of a stationary berth occur.

  • Coastal processes of the port of Pynsi . Client: Viimsi Haldus OÜ. The local wave climate was described. The situation was analyzed based on changes in the coastline and observation of the object. The impact of the new port on coastal processes was evaluated: whether and how sediment movement changes. It was assessed if the small port is sustainable in its given form (whether the sediments accumulate in the water area or on the waterway).

  • Analyzes of the Haapsalu coastal water body . Client: Skepast&Puhkim OÜ. The work consisted of an analysis of flooding, spatial distribution of effluents, sediment transport and a possible channel through mainland. Using existing measurements and modeled data, both long-term trends and short-term higher/lower water levels were analysed. The valuesexceeding certain quantiles of the water levels and their estimated time lengths were given, which were the input for determining the boundaries of the flood area.A possible channel from Haapsalu Bay to the Gulf of Finland was proposed. The differences in water levels and their time lengths in Haapsalu and Dirhami were analyzed. Variants of channel cross-sections were proposed. Recommendations for further work were given. The distribution of waste water under different water levels and wave conditions was analyzed. The impact of waste water movement/sedimentation on the existing harbor area as well as the bathing beach was evaluated. The movement of sediments in the existing situation under conditions of different water levels and waves was analyzed. Changes in flow rates in different cross-sections in Haapsalu Bay were observed, and the movement of sediments in the dredged area is analyzed. Summaries were made and recommendations were given.

  • Analysis of beach processes in Hara Bay . Client: Kuusalu Municipal Government. The wave climate and water levels of Hara Bay were described. Coastal processes were described based on previous studies and research. An answer was found to the question of how the establishment of a rock revetment on certain plots affects the stability of the rest of the beach area. Possible cost was estimated.

  • Modelling waves and water levels for Sillamäe promenaade in Estonia. Client: Selektor Ltd. Winds, wave climate and water levels were analyzed for the construction of coastal protection structures with SWAN model. Sets of results were prepared for different return periods and seasons, which enabled the cost-effective design of waterfront structures.

  • Modelling waves and water levels for Pikksilma promenade in Tallinn, Estonia. Client: Estkonsult OÜ. Winds, wave climate and water levels were analyzed for the construction of coastal protection structures with the SWAN model. Sets of results were prepared for different return periods and seasons, which enabled the cost-effective design of the promenade.

2018

  • Modelling waves and water levels for Reid road promenade . Client: KMG Ehitus OÜ. Winds, wave climate and water levels were analyzed for the construction of coastal defense structures with the SWAN model. Sets of results were prepared for different return periods and seasons, which enabled the cost-effective design of the promenade.

  • Wave analysis of Kalaranna port . Client: Aavo and Riina Raig Projekt OÜ. The parameters necessary for the design of coastal protection were modelled with the SWAN model.

  • Hydrodynamic modeling of the port of Kelnase, Estonia. Client: Viimsi Municipal Government. For the port expansions, a wave modelling was carried out, in which the parameters of the waves for the dimensioning of the facilities were found. The placement of quays was evaluated, resonance and reflections were studied. The movement of sediments between the ends of breakwaters was checked and the spread of suspended sediments during construction was evaluated in different situations. The works were an input for the design of the port.

  • Analysis of the performance of the vertical piled walls between the piles of Virtsu harbor quay No. 6 . Client: Saare Liinid AS. In cooperation with Laboratory of Wave Engineering, fluctuation of the water level was measured in front of and behind the vertical piled walls at different distances for almost 2 months. Based on the measurement results, the efficiency of the structure was analyzed and compared with theoretical formulas from scientific literature.

  • The impact of the breakwater of the port on the movement of sediments . Client: Muhu Municipal Government. The water level and currents in Väike Strait were analyzed and the movement speeds of water particles induced by the wind were calculated.

2017

  • Wave analysis of Käsmu harbor . Client: Estkonsult OÜ. Winds, wave climate and water levels were analyzed for the construction of a new port. The effect of a possible underwater breakwater on waves was taken into account and the parameters for the dimensioning of the breakwaters were obtained.

  • Analysis of sediment movement in Matsi harbor . Client: Varbla Municipality. The impact of the port and planned facilities on the beaches around Matsi harbour were analyzed. Scientific literature, observations and measured profiles were used.

  • Wave simulations of Noblessner Port . Client: Estkonsult OÜ. Winds, wave climate, water levels and high-speed ship waves were analyzed. Based on the obtained data, different new layouts of the port were analyzed in the SWAN and COULWAVE wave models. The result of the work was improvement proposals to reduce damping, design of facilities and recommendations for development stages. The work was prepared as part of the examination of the Noblessner harbor preliminary project.

  • Wave analysis for  Värati harbor . Client: Tõstemaa Municipal Government. Winds, wave climate and water levels were analyzed. Based on the obtained results, water bodies and piers with different plan solutions were modeled in the wave model SWAN, and suitable crest heights for breakwaters were found. The work was an input for the preparation of the port's preliminary project.

2016

  • The effect of the Reidi tee promenade in Tallinn on the shipwreck of Tver . Client: K-Projekt AS. Water levels and waves near the shipwreck were analyzed. The impact of wave action on sediment washout in the immediate vicinity of Tver was evaluated before and after the construction of the Reid Road embankment. Recommendations were given to reduce the possible impact and to construct shore insurance.

  • Wave analysis of Naissaar harbor . Client: Saarte Liinid AS. Winds, wave climate and water levels were analyzed and parameters were obtained for the reconstruction of the quay protection of the port of Naissaare using the Jonswap method.

  • Analysis of sediment movement in the Nasva sand deposit . Client: E-Konsult OÜ. The impact of mining in the Nasva sand deposit was analyzed for environmental impact assessment based on scientific literature, observations and calculations. The work was an input for the environmental impact assessment of the application for a special water use permit for the sea dredging of the Nasva sand quarry. The EIA report has been approved by the Environmental Board's decision 6-3/17/2525-7 of 08.05.2017 (OÜ E-Konsult job no.   • Wave analysis of the port of Vares . Client: Adapte OÜ. The parameters necessary for designing a breakwater were calculated using the SWAN model.

  • Analysis of the impact of the breakwater of Kihnu port . Client: Saarte Liinid AS. In cooperation with the Wave Engineering Laboratory, the existing wind data were analyzed and wave and water level parameters of different return periods (2 to 50 years) were found. The impact of the breakwater was assessed using the SWAN model.

2015

  • Evaluation of sediment transport and modeling of the distribution of suspended sediments in the vicinity of Merirahu harbor In cooperation with Wave Engineering Laboratory at Tallinn University of Technology, coastal processes were analyzed based on scientific literature, research and observations. The distribution of suspended sediments during dredging was modeled in different situations. The work was the input for the environmental impact assessment (EIA) of the application for the special water use permit of Merirahu port. The EIA report was approved by the Environmental Board's decision 6-3/16/2454-11 of 29.08.2016 (OÜ E-Konsult job no.   • The impact of the extension of Sõru harbor quay No. 1 on sediment transport . In cooperation with TUT Wave Dynamics Laboratory, the effect of extension on sediment transport was modeled. The work was an input for the environmental impact assessment of the request for a special water use permit for the reconstruction of Sõru port. The EIA report was approved by the Environmental Board's decision no. 6-3/16/947-3 on 01.02.2016 (OÜ E-Konsult job no.
